His earrings chimed gently as he swerved between the crowds of Kugane’s busy market street. He adored the colours, the smells and the tastes of the lively port city; and the noises distracted from the whispers. He put a hand on his chest, feeling the ridges of his wooden ribs underneath the silk robe. The area had been tender and the pain ceaseless since he crossed the Ruby Sea, and the only healer he had trusted had been missing for a number of years. Looking up at the setting sun, he quickened his pace. He still had a client tonight.

The merchant brought with him a tale more valuable than the sticks of incense Apollo purchased, and for that he gave him an extra portion of gil. “Scions of the Seventh Dawn… Raphael…” he repeated and rolled the alien words in his tongue until they felt like an old friend. He thought about how they would meet again – a happenstance, a serendipitous meeting, then a favour. Would he remember him?
